The ONYX 45 is a PAPR blower, or powered-air respirator blower, designed to move filtered air through a compatible 40mm respiratory system at approximately 45 LPM. It is sold as a standalone powered-air unit for compatible gas masks and respirator hoods.
For buyers searching for a gas mask blower or 40mm PAPR, this unit adds powered airflow to a compatible mask-or-hood setup. Respiratory protection depends on the complete system, correct assembly and a suitable filter; the blower itself does not provide filtration.
Particularly well suited for elderly users and anyone with reduced lung capacity, as the powered airflow removes the effort of breathing through a dense NBC filter unaided.
Important: This unit does not include a filter. Without a properly rated 40mm NATO NBC filter attached, this blower provides no respiratory protection. A compatible filter must be used for CBRN protection. All filters sold on CBRNmasks.com are compatible, as are any standard 40mm NATO-threaded filters (EN 148-1 / Rd40 / STANAG 4155).
The ONYX 45 accepts any standard 40mm NATO threaded filter (EN 148-1 / Rd40 / STANAG 4155). This includes all NBC and CBRN filters sold on CBRNmasks.com, as well as compatible filters from other brands. Filters are available separately in our store in single, 2-pack, 3-pack, and 4-pack options.
Works with any gas mask or respirator hood using a standard 40mm NATO threaded connection, including all CBRN masks.com masks and hoods - the Israeli 4A1 CBRN Gas Mask, the Sapphire PAPR Hood for Bearded Men, and all compatible NBC hoods and facepieces.
Looking for a complete, ready-to-use powered kit? See the Comfort Breathing CBRN Kit for Older Adults - includes the 4A1 mask, ONYX 45 blower, M80 filter, and hose in one bundle.
Factory condition, unissued. Original sealed packaging. No batteries or filters included. Mask not included. Stock up on replacement filters with our Israeli 40mm NATO NBC filter 3-pack.

A PAPR blower uses battery power to move air through a compatible filtration path and toward the respirator. The ONYX 45 is listed at approximately 45 LPM.
It uses the listed 40mm threaded respiratory connection. Verify the EN 148-1 / Rd40 interface and complete-system compatibility before use.
No. This standalone listing includes the blower and the listed hose. A compatible mask or hood and a suitable filter are required separately.
It can add powered airflow when connected to a compatible mask, filter and hose configuration. Follow the instructions for every component and verify the complete assembly before relying on it.
Works well. The battery compartment is tighter than my fingers would like, but it is not a serious problem.
Very pleased with the blower. No complaints.
Airflow stayed steady through my half-hour test around the house. No pulsing or strange noises.
I had only used passive filters before, so powered airflow was new to me. The biggest difference was simply not thinking about resistance every time I inhaled. I wore the unit for about half an hour; it sat comfortably at my side, and the sound was noticeable without making normal conversation difficult.
Very pleased.

Paired it with my hood and stopped thinking about every breath. Much more comfortable for me.
Simple controls. Switch it on, check the airflow and carry on.
Nice product. The straps took some practice.
The photos made it look larger. In person, the unit is compact and sits comfortably enough on the belt.

The ONYX 45 is a powered-air blower rated by the supplied product information at 45 liters per minute. It reduces the effort needed to draw air through a connected filter.
It is designed for wearer interfaces and hoses using an EN 148-1 / Rd40 40mm threaded connection. Confirm every component and the complete system before use.
No. The blower is sold with its connector hose but without a filter. It does not provide respiratory protection without a suitable filter and compatible wearer interface.
Use an appropriate EN 148-1 / Rd40 40mm threaded filter selected for the intended hazard. STANAG 4155 is commonly referenced for NATO interoperability, but the thread alone does not establish a protection rating.
The blower requires four CR123A lithium batteries. Batteries are not included, so obtain and install suitable batteries before an operational check.
The unit includes a belt-mount carrier clip. Secure it so the hose is not kinked, pulled, or obstructed during movement.

Everything I expected was in the box. I checked the threads, visor and straps, then did a short fit test at home. Everything was fine.
Factory seal intact, canister clean, no marks. Exactly what I wanted for storage.
Works for me.
Would order again.
Packed it with my camera gear and practiced putting it on quickly. After a couple of tries, the sequence felt natural.

The mask seems well made, but I am still struggling to get the rear straps comfortable around the back of my head. I am keeping it, although the fit has not fully convinced me yet.
Would order again.
